Decide whether this is a stairlift project or wider home work
UDS and Independent Home Solutions both describe home-modification services in addition to stairlifts. That is useful when the route from the entrance to the bedroom or bathroom has several obstacles. Begin by identifying the daily journey that must become usable. Ask the assessor to distinguish the stairlift installation from bathroom changes, doorway work or another access solution, and request separate scope and pricing for each proposed item.
If renovations are already planned, coordinate the order before measurements are finalized. Ask whether changing flooring, a landing or a doorway would affect the rail, chair parking or electrical preparation. Keep one agreed drawing or written description and update it if the wider work changes. A staged project can be easier to review when each stage identifies its purpose, responsible contractor and required completion date.
United Disabilities Services · Independent Home Solutions LancasterUse published prices as questions, not Lancaster averages
Independent Home Solutions publishes broad purchase-price descriptions on its Lancaster website. They do not define one complete installation applicable to every home. Request the exact chair, rail and selected controls, plus the scope of labor, preparation and service. If a salesperson references a published amount, ask which configuration it represents and what would change it after the home survey. Keep that explanation with the final written quotation.
Keystone’s rental page has a different problem: the itemized initial amount and a later payment instruction disagree. Ask for the corrected contract and a total through the intended removal date. Include any mileage, missed-access charge and extension payment. This guide does not choose the lower figure, calculate a regional average from advertising, or assume that an unspecified installation can be purchased at a website headline price.
Independent Home Solutions Lancaster · Keystone AccessibilityCompare new, used, rented and relocated equipment carefully
Keystone describes straight-stair rentals and an inventory-dependent used purchase route. These are not the same agreement: rental needs an end-of-use plan, while a purchase needs an ownership and warranty plan. Ask for the equipment condition, installation components and service coverage in either case. A suitable used chair may still need rail work and assessment for the current staircase; availability must be confirmed before relying on a deadline.
For relocation, Independent Home Solutions specifically warns that the rail may need alteration or replacement and that older compatible components may no longer be made. Obtain an assessment before arranging removal from another property. Ask what happens if the old equipment cannot be reused after inspection, and price a replacement alternative separately. Do not assume the original warranty follows a different owner or installation without the relevant written terms.
Keystone Accessibility · Independent Home Solutions LancasterAsk for the warranty documents before paying
UDS distinguishes manufacturer parts coverage from a one-year labor warranty. Keystone’s sources also separate new-product service from used-equipment coverage. These distinctions give you specific questions: which model is covered, which business provides labor, how long the coverage lasts and what happens to batteries or consumable parts. Request the actual documents rather than accepting the phrase “lifetime warranty” as a description of every future cost.
Independent Home Solutions’ homepage uses broad language about lifetime components and servicing. We have not adopted that wording as a verified manufacturer promise. Ask it to attach the model-specific manufacturer warranty and its own service agreement to the quote. For all offers, identify diagnostic charges, travel, routine maintenance and the process for reporting a fault. Retain the final invoice and equipment information with the handover instructions.
United Disabilities Services · Keystone Accessibility · Independent Home Solutions LancasterUse Lancaster support and financing as separate routes
Lancaster County Office of Aging describes Information and Referral as the intake point for its programs. It can identify needs and explain available services; some assistance may involve cost-sharing according to financial resources. Contact it when the stair issue sits alongside changes in daily care or living arrangements. An equipment quote does not replace a broader support assessment, and the agency listing does not authorize a specific stairlift purchase.
PATF is a separate Pennsylvania assistive-technology financing route. Ask about the current application requirements and provide the vendor quotation it requires. Keep the actual loan or assistance decision distinct from a supplier’s advertised monthly payment. If the proposed equipment changes, establish whether funding approval must also be updated before ordering. The aim is one consistent project description across the installer, the household and any organization contributing to payment.
