Understand what the Edison installed starting offer means
Altamira’s stairlift page states a starting offer of $3,000 installed for straight stairs. It also publishes product ranges whose upper limits differ from the FAQ on the same page. That inconsistency is why this guide retains only the clearly labelled starting offer and asks for a current written quote. It is not evidence that all Edison homes can be fitted at that price or that a curved rail falls in the same category.
Ask which make, model, rail length and equipment condition the starting offer assumes. Have the proposal identify the features needed for your staircase and the person using it, with preparation, electrical work and any other exclusions shown separately. If a feature is optional, request its added cost rather than accepting an unexplained upgrade total. Compare the final installed specification with the household’s intended use, and ask how service will be charged after the initial coverage ends.
Altamira Ltd.Use nearby offices and showrooms for different purposes
Altamira lists an Edison office at 55 Glendale Avenue and describes installation and service across Central and Northern New Jersey. Its office page does not establish a working stairlift showroom. 101 Mobility of Central New Jersey explicitly identifies a showroom at 121 Ethel Road West, Suite 3, Piscataway and includes Edison in its service territory. These are different kinds of visit: one may be a business contact, while the other advertises equipment demonstrations.
Williams Lift Company is identified on Bruno’s Edison dealer page with a Fanwood address at 24 South Avenue. Before travelling to any location, ask whether the intended chair and controls are present and whether an appointment is necessary. If the person finds travel difficult, ask which questions can be answered at home first. Also confirm who will handle a future fault, because the most convenient sales visit does not establish the technician’s service availability.
Altamira Ltd. · 101 Mobility of Central New Jersey · Williams Lift CompanyReconcile flexible rental language with the three-month minimum
Williams’ rental page describes straight-stair equipment, installation, service and removal. Its opening summary says the arrangement is flexible and can end when the equipment is no longer needed, but the pricing section and FAQ specify a three-month minimum. Ask the company to explain whether returning earlier changes the minimum payable amount and how notice and collection dates affect billing. The written agreement should settle that point before the first payment.
The page also describes a possible switch to purchase without publishing a fixed credit formula. Ask for the remaining balance at the date you might convert and the warranty that would apply after ownership transfers. For any other Edison-area rental enquiry, request that supplier’s own minimum, fees and available models. A straight-rental offer cannot be assumed to apply to a staircase with a turn, a different rail option or an outdoor location.
Williams Lift CompanyKeep the equipment assessment focused on everyday use
An Edison survey should cover more than whether a rail fits along the steps. Describe the route from the entrance to the rooms the person needs, any door at the bottom and the space at the top for getting off. Ask the assessor to show the chair’s parking position and whether it affects other residents using the stairs. If a second flight is involved, request an explanation of the full journey and any transfer between separate chairs.
At a demonstration, ask the user to try the controls that will actually be supplied, including the swivel and footrest where appropriate. Tell the assessor if a regular helper will be present or if the person expects to use the lift alone. Request suitable professional input where transferring or operating the chair is uncertain. The equipment seller can explain product fit, but a website’s general claim about easy operation does not resolve an individual’s needs.
Altamira Ltd. · 101 Mobility of Central New JerseyPair a clear service plan with Middlesex support navigation
The Middlesex County Office of Aging and Disabled Services is the local ADRC route for information, referrals and assistance. It offers a way to ask about broader care needs, benefits and available community services while the equipment assessment is underway. The county’s senior-center directory separately identifies Edison Senior Center at 2963 Woodbridge Avenue. Confirm which contact can help with your specific issue and what documentation is needed; neither listing is an automatic stairlift funding approval.
Ask the installer for a written handover and aftercare plan alongside any support applications. The 101 network describes a limited service warranty for new products it sells and installs; rentals and used products require their own terms. Confirm parts, labor, maintenance, travel and wear items individually. Have a helper attend the demonstration if they will manage service calls, and keep the model, serial number, invoice and fault-reporting contact together for future use.
