Use Hartford’s showroom access deliberately
Lifeway’s Connecticut page places its showroom at 40 Weston Street, Building 40, Suite A in Hartford, with a request to call ahead. The independent 101 Mobility branch is at 485 New Park Avenue in West Hartford. Stannah’s rental information names a Hamden office. These are different municipalities and functions; an office address alone does not prove which equipment is available for demonstrations.
Choose a visit around questions the rider needs answered. Can they sit comfortably, reach the control and operate the swivel? If a manual footrest or rail would need help, identify who would provide it. Request the proposed model’s functions in writing after the visit. The home survey must still confirm the boarding space and route, even when the demonstration feels comfortable.

The Connecticut Lifeway rental page lists Bruno Elan and Elite straight models. Its standard package has a two-month minimum, with fitting, removal and service for the first twelve months described. A general reference to curved rental at some locations does not establish a particular Connecticut unit. If the home has a turn, ask for a specific model and rail plan rather than assuming the straight offer extends to it.
Stannah provides another enquiry route through its Connecticut direct operation, with curved equipment included in its broader rental program. Ask for the actual prepaid commitment, continuation amount and end-of-rental arrangements. Compare the complete obligation at the same finish date. If the need is uncertain, request both the cost to continue and the balance required to buy, including which payments receive no credit.

Include the approach to the lower landing, nearby doors and the destination at the top in the assessment. If two flights are involved, explain whether the rider needs to stop at the intermediate floor and whether transferring between seats is practical. These are questions for the home assessment and, where needed, the person’s care team; they should not be decided from an online equipment picture.
Request a scope covering the rail, options, electrical preparation, installation and user training. Hartford’s Building and Trades Permit service is the municipal route for questions about the actual work. Ask who determines and handles any required approvals. This guide does not repeat a commercial blanket no-permit statement as a Hartford rule, particularly for shared stairs or additional building work.

The Connecticut Lifeway page distinguishes new-equipment terms, including its stated parts and labour periods, from used equipment that requires separate clarification. Stannah’s general guidance similarly distinguishes reconditioned equipment and notes that a curved reconditioned purchase still needs a new custom rail. That makes the equipment condition and rail scope important fields in the quote, not minor details beneath the price.
Ask the contracting business which costs are covered during the first year and afterward: components, labour, batteries, scheduled maintenance and technician travel. 101 Mobility’s network FAQ directs buyers to the local operation for warranty details. Avoid turning a network-wide service label into a branch contract. Store the serial number and service contact with the signed scope so another household member can request help.

North Central Area Agency on Aging’s ADRC assists adults aged sixty and over and people with disabilities with benefits applications, options counselling and related support. It can be useful when the staircase is only part of a wider home-support problem. Ask which services apply and what documentation is needed; the information service itself is not evidence that a stairlift purchase will be reimbursed.
The Connecticut Tech Act Project’s Assistive Technology Loan Program includes home-access modifications among potential uses. Its published criteria include Connecticut residency and disability requirements, with a separate approval process. Ask whether the project and borrower qualify before signing on the assumption that financing will arrive. Request the loan terms directly and allow for the application timeline in the installation plan.
