Use the regional price as a starting budget
The figures above come from one installer’s dated guide. Independent Living Solutions lists Boulder in its service territory, but that does not turn its regional examples into a surveyed Boulder price. The useful next step is a proposal naming the equipment, rail route and selected functions for your staircase.
Ask the assessor to show where the rail ends and the chair parks, including any doorway conflict. Put electrical preparation, tax, optional controls, removal and future service travel in the proposal as included, additional or not needed. For a used unit, identify the equipment and warranty before paying a deposit. Keep financing terms separate from the installed cash price.
Independent Living SolutionsWhat Lifeway’s published rental terms include
Lifeway’s Denver program generally describes straight stairlifts. Its standard package includes installation and removal, with service and maintenance during the first 12 months. After the initial two-month term, it describes monthly payments. The page does not establish a dollar rate or suitable stock for your Boulder stairs.
Its published rental options are limited: a manual folding rail is the only listed add-on. A household needing other powered functions should resolve that before choosing rental. Ask for the complete minimum charge, extension rate, notice requirement and billing end date. Confirm whether maintenance changes after month 12. A curved rental and any purchase-conversion calculation need a specific written offer.
Lifeway MobilityWhere Boulder assessments and test rides start
Lifeway’s regional branch is at 3025 W. Jefferson Avenue in Englewood. Independent Living Solutions lists 6225 W. 48th Avenue, #108, in Wheat Ridge. Mobility & More advertises a showroom at 493 N. Denver Avenue in Loveland and says it installs Bruno stairlifts exclusively. All three publish Boulder coverage. These are regional service options, not evidence of three Boulder stores.
Before travelling, confirm a working model with the controls the intended rider needs to try. A home assessment still needs to establish fit at both landings. Ask which team handles later Boulder repairs, what a call-out costs and whether the warranty includes labour and travel. Save that number with the model, serial number, charging instructions and installation paperwork.
Lifeway Mobility · Independent Living Solutions · Mobility & MoreCity of Boulder or unincorporated Boulder County?
Check the parcel first: Boulder County’s incorporated-municipalities page explains how to find the jurisdiction under Property Description in Property Search. For a City of Boulder property, contact Planning & Development Services at 303-441-1880. For unincorporated property, the County’s Building Safety and Inspection Services team takes permit questions at 303-441-3926. The County also provides building review for Jamestown. A Boulder postal address alone does not choose the building office.
Send that office the model, rail layout, interior or exterior location and any proposed electrical or structural work. Ask which applications and inspections apply to that scope and who will submit them. The jurisdictions have their own current rules: the County lists building-code amendments effective July 1, 2026, while the City says electrical permit applications submitted from August 1, 2026 are reviewed under the 2026 National Electrical Code. An older quote’s permit assumptions may need updating.

Colorado’s 2026 conveyance regulations, section 1-5(4)(r)–(s), separately exclude conveyances in a single-family residence and stairway chairlifts defined by ASME A18.1. The rules also preserve stricter local standards. Do not treat a qualifying chairlift as automatically subject to the state conveyance registration and annual inspection program, or treat the exclusion as permission to skip local review. A platform lift or elevator requires its own classification.
For an outdoor installation at a designated Boulder landmark or a property in a historic district, ask Historic Preservation about a Landmark Alteration Certificate before ordering. The City requires this review for exterior changes, including changes to newer buildings within historic districts. It is designation and the proposed exterior work that matter; the page does not establish a certificate requirement for every interior chairlift in an old house. The historic-review contact is 303-441-3209.

The City’s current Housing Rehabilitation Program page says Longmont can no longer operate the partnership and Boulder is assessing alternatives. Do not budget from an older loan handbook as though intake were confirmed. The current page directs readers to other resources, including Cultivate and a commercial mobility company; those referrals are not stairlift funding approvals.
Cultivate’s Fix-It program describes simple home repairs, wheelchair or walker repairs and grab bars. Volunteer work has no service charge, but clients pay for supplies, and tasks depend on volunteers’ skills and availability. Call 303-443-1933 to discuss a smaller access task. Its published scope does not establish fixed stairlift installation or a grant to buy one.
For Medicaid long-term services and supports, Boulder County currently directs functional assessments to A&I Avenues at 303-439-7011. Eligibility includes functional and financial assessment. Ask your case manager whether the applicable home-modification benefit can consider your project and what approval is required before work starts. Colorado’s current authorization memo addresses case-manager submission of these requests; it does not promise every applicant a stairlift or a standard award.
