Describe the complete Temecula installation
A request for “a stairlift upstairs” leaves important decisions unresolved. Which room is the destination, where does the rider begin, and are there smaller steps before or after the main flight? Photograph the approach and both landings, including doors that open across the route. Explain whether the person uses a walker or wheelchair and where it would wait at the other end.
Ask the assessor to describe the proposed boarding and parking positions in plain language. If there are turns, request a drawing of the rail route. If a folding section is proposed, ask who will operate it and how it affects the doorway beside the stairs. Have any electrical work, owner approvals and making good assigned to a named party before you accept the price.
California Mobility · Lifeway MobilityCheck the rental purchase calculation before signing
A purchase option can be useful when the duration is uncertain, but only if its calculation is clear. Ask for examples using your expected return date and a later date. Have the business show which earlier payments count toward ownership, which do not and whether installation has already been paid for. The resulting balance should be understandable without a verbal explanation from a salesperson.
Also ask what changes at the point of purchase. Will maintenance, labor coverage or the callout arrangement continue on the same terms? If you return the lift instead, how much notice is needed and who removes it? Put these answers beside the outright purchase proposal. The decision then reflects the same equipment and the household’s likely timeline rather than two different payment headlines.
Pacific MobilityPlan a regional demonstration and return service
Lifeway’s Temecula page points to demonstration options in San Diego and Irvine. California Mobility’s locations page likewise distinguishes regional premises from the cities it serves. Before making a trip, request the current appointment address and a description of the equipment you will be able to test. Avoid arranging travel until the relevant model or control option is confirmed.
Use the appointment to resolve practical questions such as operating controls, getting on and off, and folding the seat. Then ask where the installation and repair team would travel from for your address. Have travel charges and the contact route written down. A good demonstration answers equipment questions; it does not by itself establish the response time for a later repair at home.
Lifeway Mobility · California Mobility · Pacific MobilitySeparate a funded repair program from your approval
Habitat Inland Valley describes Critical Home Repair work in selected cities. Temecula’s FY2025–26 action plan documents support for that program, but that budget year has ended. Ask the administrator whether current Temecula funding is available and whether the proposed stairlift is within scope. Neither document establishes a current award or installation date for a household.
Prepare the address, ownership arrangement and a concise description of the access problem. If the home is manufactured or mobile, identify that before paying for design work. Ask whether an assessment and approval must precede any contractor commitment and whether other repairs take priority. Request the current household contribution, if any, and the expected application sequence. Keep a commercial quote available as information rather than assuming it satisfies the program’s procurement process.

Community Access Center’s local contact can help you start the support conversation. Describe the task that has become difficult instead of asking only for a particular product. For example, the immediate concern may be reaching a bathroom, leaving the home or managing a transfer while another family member is away. Ask what information or assessment would help identify suitable options.
Bring that information back to the installer’s survey. Record who will approve the equipment, who can be present at handover and who should receive service instructions. Ask for the warranty on the actual model, with parts and labor listed separately. If several relatives are coordinating, keep one written project record so a sales enquiry, a support referral and an equipment order do not become confused.
